We received a denial from Humana to medically transport our mom back to the states to receive medically necessary care that she is unable to receive in Portugal. We have started working with an attorney to facilitate the appeal.
Every day our family wakes up and sees an hourglass dripping sand and time that we will never get back on her road to recovery. TBI patients need to receive treatment between 3-12 months to achieve the best possible recovery…..tomorrow we crest the 5 month mark. Sigh….
Aside from the time constraints of treatment, Portugal has been experiencing a doctor and nurse shortage causing a lot of concern and crisis. It’s been all over the Portugal newspapers and news stations, making it even more imperative to bring a US citizen back to their home country so we aren’t taxing an already limited system.
She also developed another respiratory infection which is a huge danger for her but she has been responding well to treatment. She continues to make marginal improvements with the help of her kids.
We are launching a social media campaign and would really greatly appreciate if you could follow, like and share our content across all of your platforms. This campaign tells the story of what has happened to our mom, who she is as a person and what our entire experience has been. The purpose of this campaign is to educate our audience and also breathe new life into the GoFundMe campaign. We are also getting ready to release a national press release this week and we are really hoping it gets picked up so it can help us spread the word and educate people.
